Facing the sea
"At the beginning, there is the sea—a blue horizon that never ends. It also marks a limit as impassable as a wall. "Fabienne Brugère, Guillaume Le Blanc.
The story begins in Cuba, facing the sea. Depending on where you stand, this story either offers a horizon of possibilities or, on the contrary, locks you in. I focused on two completely different but overlapping places to talk about this country in perpetual transition. Following the ups and downs of Cuban history in recent decades, they bear the traces of the comings and goings of those who settled there and left.
In the first series, the metaphor of the in-between is obvious. It reveals itself in the light drawing towards the chiaroscuro and in the tension between inside and outside. In the second, the focus is on the intermediate spaces, fringe areas from different perspectives. Bringing stillness to these scenes allows us to distance ourselves from reality.
